The turtle has been an auspicious animal since Neolithic times. In ancient China it was a symbol of Heaven, man and Earth. The shell being representative of heaven over the flat, square shaped underside of the turtle which symbolized earth. (N.B. this is because of the four directions North, South, East, and West, rather than actual shape).
On many islands in the Pacific Ocean, the turtle is believed to be the guardian and protector against evil.

There are many green sea turtles here in Hawaii, and they are always impressive and inspiring to see. Please excuse me here, but I have to say “If you see one please do not touch or bother them”.
The facets raised out of the actual segmented patterns of the shell are my own creative license and was inspired by the natural hexagonal markings on the shell. The added texture and dimensions this provided was a real joy in discovery for me.
